Lazio should soon be able to count on the services of Gaetano Castrovilli as the midfielder’s recovery is going faster than expected.
The 27-year-old underwent arthroscopic surgery on November 8th after suffering a meniscus injury in his left knee. The player was initially expected to remain on the sidelines for at least one month. This issue brought the player’s unfortunate injury history back to light. The Euro 2020 winner is coming off a series of rough campaigns where he was only able to amass limited playing time due to recurring injury problems which led to his Fiorentina release.
But according to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Castrovilli’s recovery is ahead of schedule. While the player was supposed to return to the pitch next week, he’s already jogging at Formello. The Roman newspaper now expects him to rejoin his teammates in group training at the beginning of December, which would pave the way for his return to action.
When the Italian’s injury was first announced, some reports claimed Lazio could replace him in the Serie A squad with Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro, but this suggestion is now a distant memory, as Castrovilli maintained his spot on Marco Baroni’s list and should be back in the matchday squad in a few weeks’ time.
