Lazio defender Mario Gila discussed several topics in a long interview with the club’s official channel (via La Lazio Siamo Noi).
The Spaniard is only in his third season at Formello but insists that playing for the Biancocelesti evokes an inequivalent sense of belonging, while also discussing his passion for the city of Rome.
I’m forever thankful for Lazio. I am indebted to everyone at the club as well as the fans. I feel a strong sense of belonging. Lazio makes you experience emotions never felt before, and I doubt that any other club can give you this experience. I am delighted to be here. I’m in love with the city. I like the food, the people, Lazio. I also like the atmosphere of the Derby. I love experiencing the city in all its aspects. It has so much history behind it. I’m happy to live here, I even dreamed of learning Italian when I was in Spain and I now did it.
Although he still has a long way to go, the 24-year-old reveals he’d like to be fondly remembered at the club like legendary Lazio defender Alessandro Nesta.
I hope I’d be remembered Like Nesta by the fans. I Certainly have a different style, but I’d like to leave my mark on this era. He’s always on my mind. He arrived at Lazio as a child and left as a man. He earned the respect and love of everyone at the club.
Gila also named Sergio Ramos as his role model, while revealing his admiration for Manchester City star Josko Gvardiol.
Sergio Ramos is and will always be my idol. I love everything about him: his style of play, how he motivates the team, what he transmits to his teammates. I was lucky enough to be able to train with him. These days, I really like Gvardiol from Manchester City. My strongest teammate was Toni Kroos. He didn’t catch the eye like the others but he won matches by dictating the pace of the game. A tremendous player. Isco’s talent, on the other hand, was a bit wasted, he had an incredible quality. Unfortunately, injuries affected his experience at Real Madrid.
The Spanish defender was born in Barcelona but started his career at Real Madrid.
Visualizza l' imprint del creatorWe’re talking about two opposite cities, obviously. Had I received the offer from Barcelona first, I probably would have accepted it so I could stay home. Luckily, however, I got a call from Real Madrid, the best club in the world. It was wonderful. Los Merengues always win thanks to their DNA. Many other clubs have great players but their character is incredible, it allows them to pull off impossible comebacks. When they are behind, they know that it only takes one goal to change the whole outcome.
