Lazio held their first pre-season friendly of the summer by taking on Lazio U20 at their training facility in Formello.

The Starting Lineup

Maurizio Sarri was without Mattia Zaccagni, Christos Mandas, Gustav Isaksen, Patric and Luca Pellegrini. He began the contest with his usual 4-3-3 formation, spearheaded by Taty Castellanos, with Tijjani Noslin and Pedro on the flanks.

Danilo Cataldi pulled the strings in the middle of the park while donning the captain’s armband. He was joined by Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Matteo Guendouzi, while the backline consisted of Adam Marusic, Mario Gila, Oliver Provstgaard and Nuno Tavares.

Lazio Seniors Dominate the Action

The senior team naturally had the upper hand, and Castellanos almost scored an early opener after being set up by a lovely piece of skill from Pedro, but the Argentinian’s header bounced off the post. Afterwards, Noslin freed Dele-Bashiru who skipped past the goalkeeper, but his tame shot was cleared off the line.

Pedro Opens the Scoring for Lazio

In the final minutes of the first half, a throw-in from Marusic was headed to the center of the box by Castellanos. Noslin brought it down for Pedro who evaded his marker before coolly slotting it at the bottom corner to break the deadlock.

Matteo Cancellieri Delights

After the interval, Sarri immediately made 10 changes, with only Pedro given extra minutes before being eventually replaced by Toma Basic 12 minutes later. The seniors continued to dominate the proceedings, with Matteo Cancellieri marking an impressive outing with an absolute scorcher, finding the top corner with a splendid long-range curler.

Toma Basic Rounds Off a Comfortable Win

In the 90th minute, Basic, who was playing in a more advanced role than usual, made it 3-0 after being picked up by Nicolo Rovella. The unmarked Croatian kept his cool to put it past the goalkeeper.

What’s Next for Lazio?

Lazio’s next test will be against Avellino on July 26. The contest will take place at the Stadio Benito Stirpe in Frosinone.
