Lazio are reportedly aiming to extend the contracts of Elseid Hysaj and Toma Basic, even though they’re considered surplus to requirements.
The two players were omitted from Marco Baroni’s squad at the start of the previous campaign, although the Albanian full-back earned his way back in January. This season, they probably stand a bigger chance of landing a spot on the list when Maurizio Sarri hands in his squad after the end of the transfer session, but they both appear to be at the bottom of the manager’s pecking order.
And yet, Il Messaggero reveals that Lazio are planning to offer the duo new contracts. Both players are running on deals expiring at the end of the season, and they’re on considerable wages, especially Hysaj who earns a net salary of €2.8 million. As for Basic, his salary is worth circa €1.6 million.

As the source explains, Lazio have been unable to sell either player this summer, at least not without registering capital losses. Therefore, the management is hoping to extend their contracts and push back the deadline until 2027. This would allow the club to spread their salaries while also opening up the possibility of sending them on loan with an obligation to buy in January.
On the contrary, the Aquile plan to release Mohamed Fares and Dimitrije Kamenovic by offering them severance pay. The Algerian left-back and the Serbian defender have been completely omitted from Sarri’s plans since the manager’s return to Formello in July.
