Inaki Pena does not appear to have a significant role at Barcelona this season. Despite his strong performances last year, he has since fallen far down the pecking order. While some might argue that this is unfair, it remains the reality.

Rather than staying put and fighting a battle he cannot win, Pena is now looking for a way out. Even so, the Spaniard wants to continue competing at the highest level, and his latest reported suitor could offer exactly that.

According to Fichajes, Girona have identified Pena as a prime candidate to strengthen their goalkeeping department. The Montilivi club has grown dissatisfied with recent errors from Paulo Gazzaniga, which have cost points early in the season, and view the Barça keeper as a reliable reinforcement.

What makes Pena attractive is his balance of youth and experience. Still relatively young but already tested in high-pressure matches at Barcelona, he offers both potential and immediate reliability.

As for Barça, they are open to Inaki Pena leaving the club this summer. After all, Joan Garcia has already been registered, and eventually Wojciech Szczesny will likely end up being registered as well. In fact, the club does not want an overcrowding of goalkeepers, so Pena’s departure would certainly help in that regard.
