Danilo’s departure from Juventus during the January transfer window now looks like a mere formality, with Napoli waiting in the wings. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the veteran defender’s contract resolution is nearing, which long-expected would accelerate his transfer to Naples.
Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has been working on this deal for months. Indeed, Danilo’s influence at Juventus has dwindled upon Thiago Motta’s arrival last summer. The ex-Bologna manager stripped the 33-year-old of the starting berth, compromising his future in Turin.
Despite being a faithful servant for the last five years, Danilo is on the cusp of waving goodbye to Juventus. His contract at the Allianz Stadium runs out at the end of the season. However, the parties are working on an immediate termination to facilitate his switch to Napoli.
With Rafa Marin set to leave Stadio Diego Armando Maradona after a forgettable first half of the season, Napoli will probably intensify talks with Danilo in the coming days. Antonio Conte could use a defender of Danilo’s qualities and experience now that he’s fighting for the Scudetto.
The former Manchester City star will reportedly pen an 18-month contract at Napoli after performing a U-turn on his decision to return to his native Brazil. Danilo’s change of heart made Napoli quit their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain’s Milan Skriniar.
Although the Slovak is available on a cut-price deal, his lucrative wages have put Napoli off. Les Parisiens were open to letting Skriniar return to Serie A on loan, but that’s no longer an option for the Partenopei.
