Samuel Chukwueze’s time with the Nigerian national team has been cut short as he will return to AC Milan to undergo scans on a muscle injury he has picked up, a report claims.

Chukwueze has not had the best of starts to the season in terms of form, struggling to make an impact when he was given minutes all while Christian Pulisic has picked up where he left off last season, limiting his opportunities.

The hope was that some time with his national team would help Chukwueze, who arrived in the 2023 summer transfer window from Villarreal as the most expensive purchase, but he is coming home early.

According to PoojaMedia, an account that closely covers the Nigerian national team, Chukwueze will travel back to Milan so that the club doctors can assess his hamstring injury he suffered at the end of the Libya game.

It is not the news that the Rossoneri were hoping for, even if Pulisic has been released early by the United States and will therefore be regularly available for the game against Udinese on Saturday.

The hope is that it won’t be a long stop for Chukwueze, given that seven games in 21 days await after the break, but the last time he came back early from international duty with an injury it kept him out for a few weeks.
