Inter are among the clubs interested picking up Germany defender Jonathan Tah on a potential free transfer next summer, but the Nerazzurri will have to fend off competition from a number of high-profile clubs.

Inter are on the look-out for defensive opportunities on the market, as several key figures in their back-line are beginning to show signs of age, including Francesco Acerbi (36), Matteo Darmian (34) and Stefan De Vrij (32).

Tah, currently working under Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen, is into the final year or his contract in Germany, and looks increasingly less likely to sign a new deal as time goes by.

Why Inter want Tah from Bayer Leverkusen

The 28-year-old has made 264 Bundesliga appearances since joining Leverkusen close to a decade ago, chipping in with 13 league goals, and has also picked up 38 caps for Germany in the process.

Tah also possesses a number of personal and physical attributes that suit Inter.

He is right-footed, which means that Alessandro Bastoni’s place wouldn’t be under threat, he is tall, strong and powerful and is off an age where he wouldn’t need too much time to adapt.

Tah has also excelled playing in a back three at Leverkusen, which means that he might suit Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 system more easily than in some of the other ‘top’ clubs in Europe.

The fact that he could be available on a free transfer also pleases the Nerazzurri, who in recent years have picked up the likes of Marcus Thuram, Mehdi Taremi, Piotr Zielinski, Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhotaryan without having to pay a fee.

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the same intermediaries helped the Benjamin Pavard deal are also working on a deal for Tah.

The other clubs reportedly interested in the German include Bayern Munich and Liverpool.
