Today, Oaktree Capital confirmed that they will take over Inter from Suning.

The US fund can now repossess the outgoing owners’ controlling shares in the Nerazzurri following default on a loan from 2021. And they made a statement making clear that they will do so.

That is obviously a huge development in terms of Inter’s leadership off the pitch.

But the arrival of new owners does not mean that the Nerazzurri are not also thinking about their plans for on the pitch.

It is now getting towards the end of May. And the club must really start to firm of their strategy in terms of both sales and signings for the summer window.

Simone Inzaghi & Inter Milan Directors Set Key Transfer Summit For Next Week

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta was already part of a meeting with Oaktree executives earlier today.

The veteran executive is widely expected to retain his role as the architect of Inter’s strategy. If anything Marotta could become even more influential under Oaktree.

The 67-year-old will have to strike a delicate political balance between carving out a role in the new regime, and doing what he has always done – focusing on building the squad.

Marotta will be part of an important meeting early next week. So will Inter Sporting Director Piero Ausilio and Assistant Sporting Director Dario Baccin.

The three executives will meet with Nerazzurri coach Inzaghi.

The four men will outline in detail the club’s strategy for the summer window.

By that point, there will be clarity about what the financial situation and limitations are vis-a-vis the new owners.

And Inzaghi will certainly have demands of his own. The former Lazio coach will naturally have his own views on what is necessary to make the squad even stronger than it was this season.

By all accounts, the most important priority may not be to bring in any big name players.

Rather, Inter will be very keen to keep the balance of what has proven to be an exceptionally strong team this season.

Still, there will certainly be both sales and signings. And early next week, Inzaghi and the Inter directors will hash out what their plans are exactly in this respect.
