Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta discussed the contract situation of club captain Lautaro Martinez, insisting that the two parties would like to extend their collaboration.

The Argentine has cemented himself as the club’s ultimate talisman. He spearheaded the club’s charge towards the Serie A title while leading the Capacannoniere charts with 24 goals to his name.

Therefore, the management is keen to lock in the striker on a long-term deal.

His current contract is valid until 2026, but the management is looking to push back the deadline until 2029.

The new contract will also include a pay raise that would see the 26-year-old earn circa 9 million euros per season.

But while the two parties are both looking forward to inking the deal, the white smoke has yet to emerge.

Nevertheless, Lautaro said this evening that he’s hoping to sign his new contract soon. The Argentina international made this statement while attending the Gentlman Fair Play Awards in Milan.

Curiously, Marotta was also present at the same event, and he echoed the words of the club captain.

“There are no major problems between us and our players,” said the Inter CEO when asked for updates on Lautaro’s contract talks (via FcInterNews).

“This is because the common denominator is the desire to continue together. This is a great value that will lead us forward.

“I hope we can very easily reach an agreement.”

The 67-year-old also made an acceptance speech after receiving his award.

“This is a lifetime achievement award. I must share it with all the clubs I have worked for and with all my collaborators.

“Obviously, the players are the protagonists, but in my experience, I have never seen a team win on the pitch without having a strong management behind them.

“I am proud of this award, I want to share it with all my loved ones. They give me the opportunity to carry out my work with tranquility and great passion.”
