Even if we weren’t in the middle of the summer holidays, Gabriel Jesus and Jurrien Timber would both be unavailable for selection by Mikel Arteta at the moment due to injury.
Jesus underwent surgery on an ACL injury earlier this year, and he’s currently working on his recovery with former club Palmeiras.
“Thank you to Palmeiras for opening the doors so I could use this incredible facility for my recovery while I’m at home,” Jesus wrote on social media this week. “Always a pleasure to be here.”

As for Timber, the Dutch defender shared a video of himself on his Instagram story, running whilst half submerged in water.
The player underwent ankle surgery on Tuesday, May 20th, with Arteta confirming at the time that he’d miss a few weeks.
Just over a month later, it’s encouraging to see Timber running again, albeit in controlled conditions. It will likely be a while longer before the defender can return to the grass.

Reflecting on his injury this week, Timber discussed how he tried to keep playing through the problem, but he ended up picking up a new issue in the process.
“I had a scan done with the national team and the conclusion was that I had to undergo surgery at the end of the season,” Timber said. “I wanted to keep playing for Arsenal no matter what, but that was difficult.
“[Then] I got a new injury, in the heel of the same foot. Running didn’t hurt, but slowing down did.”
With any luck, the time away from playing and the procedure the 24-year-old underwent will allow him to return to his best next season.
