Niels Nkounkou discusses the meeting with Leverkusen, his first season in Frankfurt and the competition with Philipp Max.

… the upcoming match against Bayer 04 Leverkusen: “The motivation is always the same, regardless of who we’re playing. We try to win every match. We’re working hard in training. Leverkusen still haven’t lost yet, but we’ll prepare as best we can to win the game.”

… the rest of the season: “We’re only focusing on our performance. There are three matches left, then we’ll see how it looks at the end of the season.”

… his season so far: “The season isn’t over yet but if I look back, I’m quite pleased with how I’ve done. The first year is never easy, especially in the Bundesliga. I’ve settled in quickly and well and have been supported really well by everyone. I’ve played in different positions. I prefer playing at left-back but I’ll always adapt – we have different systems.”

… the competition on the left side: “The competition is good for us both. Philipp Max is a very good player. We have different qualities that we can bring onto the pitch. The competition pushes us to produce our best performances in training and matches, which I see as very positive overall and which helps us in our development.”

… his future: “I also moved to France to have a bit more stability in my career. I had a lot of clubs in the years before that. I can state very clearly that I have no intention of switching clubs. I feel very happy here and will be here next season too.”
