The Peterborough captain was reported to be undertaking a medical at Bramall Lane soon.

Sheffield United will struggle to get a deal done for Peterborough United target Harrison Burrows at the moment because of the ongoing takeover talks and a lack of funds.

Chris Wilder needs additions all over the pitch if the Blades want to be a competitive force in the Championship next season.

The start of a massive squad overhaul has already begun, with many senior players being released. One of the departing members of the squad, Max Lowe, has joined the club's Steel City rivals, Sheffield Wednesday.

The gap that has now been left by him, the seemingly inevitable departure of Ben Osborn and Yasser Larouci's return to his parent club, after United chose not to make his move permanent, has left quite the gap on the left side of the defence.

Burrows, Peterborough's 22-year-old captain, has impressed in League One over the past few seasons, and had been rumoured to be one of the players that Wilder's team were targeting this summer.

Sheffield Star journalist Danny Hall had said that an imminent move for the left-back was unlikely, after some rumours had started to circulate about it.

Then the Peterborough Telegraph reported on Wednesday that Burrows was due for a medical with the Blades at the end of the week. The League One club didn't comment on whether this was the case, when asked by the local outlet.

More news from the Sheffield side of things has emerged, and it's probably not the news that United fans wanted to hear.

The Star have reported that a deal between the two clubs for the 22-year-old would require an influx of new money from the proposed takeover or the sale of one of the Blades' better players to make it happen.

Prince Abdullah, the Yorkshire club's Saudi Arabian owner, is believed to be in talks with a US-based consortium over the sale of the club. This ongoing process has put transfer activity on hold, according to the Star.

This isn't the first bit of potential business that the proposed takeover has affected. Discussions with striker Oli McBurnie over a new deal have been put on hold because of the club's potential change of hands.

Osborn's departure comes as a result of United not opting to activate the clause that would have extended his stay until the end of next season; a decision which is believed to have been influenced by the US-consortium.

Until the takeover is complete, or they sell a couple of players for decent money, the expectation is that Wilder will have to work with the current budget which should allow for mostly free agent and loan signings, with the possibility for some smaller fees to be paid.

This would rule them out of the running for Burrows, who Peterborough are reported to want at least £5 million for.

It could be a long summer at Bramall Lane

The success of this transfer window relies so heavily on the takeover going through smoothly so that money can start to be spent. With how these things can be dragged out, United may not reap the true benefits of their new custodians until way after they would have liked to.

They do have the ability to generate funds by offloading the likes of Vinicius Souza and Anel Ahmedhodzic, who are available for transfer, but they have no control over these situations.

Any great joy that could come between now and September is almost entirely out of the Blades' hands. They are reliant on others, and that is not a good position to be in.
