Recent form

Manchester City came into the Club World Cup from their first season without a trophy since 2017. However, they were able to win 2-0 in their first fixture of the tournament. Their goals came from Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku. They will look to continue this form against Al Ain.

Al Ain lost their first fixture of the Club World Cup 5-0 to Juventus, they will most likely need three points against the Citizens to keep any opportunity of qualifying for the next round alive. They came 5th in the UAE Pro League last time out.

What’s been said?

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola indicated that he is likely to make major changes to the side that beat Wydad AC last time out.

“In the next match 10 new players will be lined up to try and win.

The Spaniard also confirmed that Rodri will not be starting, “He’s getting better. We’re not going to forget that it’s almost nine months since the sad day it happened. He has been out for a long time. He’s getting better.

“He can play 20 minutes, 30 minutes at a time. He wants to play to help but we want to protect his knee. He wants to help. Hopefully one day soon, he can play from the beginning.”

Al-Ain manager Vladimir Ivic, who was previously at Watford, insists that his side believe that they can give Manchester City a tough test.

“When you play against the best ones, you want to be the best of yourself.

“I am sure my players will give the maximum, trying from the first until the last, to show themselves the best way against the best one. We have to believe in ourselves and my team.”
