A look at how much Jamie Vardy earns for Leicester City amid interest from Crystal Palace in the departing former England international.

Former England international Jamie Vardy is set to depart Leicester City at the end of his contract this summer and newly crowned FA Cup winners Crystal Palace are the latest side to have been linked with a move for the 38-year-old striker.

Vardy scored his 200th goal for the Foxes as they defeated fellow relegated side Ipswich Town by two goals to nil in the Premier League at the weekend in what was his 500th, and set to be, final appearance of the campaign, with Vardy missing the final day trip to face AFC Bournemouth.

The likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Wrexham had previously been linked with Vardy, but now Oliver Glasner’s Palace are the latest team to have shown an interest, as per Football Insider, as the Eagles look to deepen their squad ahead of competing in the UEFA Europa League next season.

As Palace seek to bolster their attacking department ahead of next year, Football League World has taken a look at the wages they may have to fork out for the former Fleetwood Town marksman.

According to Capology, Vardy is the highest earner at the King Power Stadium with a weekly wage of £140,000 - £50,000 more than the next highest earner at the 2015/16 Premier League winners.

Vardy is the only man in the Leicester squad reportedly earning six figures at Leicester, with Crystal Palace loanee Odsonne Edouard and former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks said to be earning £90,000 per week.

At the age of 38, though, it is surely to be expected that Vardy takes something of a pay cut this summer with his existing deal having been agreed and signed in June 2024.

In comparison to Leicester, Crystal Palace currently have four players earning £100,000 per week or more, albeit their highest, Daichi Kamada, who joined on a free transfer from Lazio last summer, is on £105,000 per week – £35,000 less than Vardy, as reported by Capology.

There are three players all on £100,000 per week: goalkeeper Dean Henderson, England international Eberechi Eze, as well as defender Ben Chilwell, who is on loan from Chelsea.

Eddie Nketiah, who signed from Arsenal last summer, reportedly earns £90,000 per week, whilst Ismaila Sarr, Jefferson Lerma and Cheick Doucoure all on £70,000 per week.

Even if Vardy was to accept a 50% reduction in his wage to get a move to Selhurst Park, then there would still only currently be four players currently contracted to Palace next season that earn more than him.

Palace are expected to have to fend off interest this summer in the likes of Eze as well as club captain Marc Guehi, who earns £50,000 per week, whilst also seeking to bolster what is a small-ish squad, especially in order to compete domestically and in Europe.

As well as Chilwell, they also have goalkeeper Matt Turner on loan, whilst Nathaniel Clyne, Kaden Rodney, Remi Matthews and Joel Ward all coming to the end of their respective contracts, with the latter having already announced he will leave the club after joining from Portsmouth in the summer of 2012.
