One of the most talked about Barcelona players in recent days has been Fermin Lopez. The Spanish midfielder has consistently been linked to an exit, and also with a potentially significant transfer fee as well. However, no confirmation has arrived just yet.
While the reports have been consistent, it would appear that Hansi Flick wants to retain the player and others for that matter before the end of the summer transfer window. The German coach does not want to lose any other players of his, and he provided a positive update on the matter recently.
As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, ahead of the upcoming game against Rayo Vallecano, Flick confirmed that he believes that Lopez will end up staying at the club this summer:
“For now he’s here. I’ve spoken with him and I think he’ll stay. I’ll be very happy when the market closes. His heart is at Barça. This is his home.”

When asked about the club’s position, however, the Barcelona coach once again gave a straightforward answer:
“I don’t know. I’m focused on the team, I’m not interested in the financial side. My focus is on the squad and we have a fantastic one. Everyone knows I’d like to keep those who are here. You can ask others.”
He also highlighted that while this whole thing is business-related, he still believes that Lopez has a lot to offer to the team:
“Just two more days, and we see the finish line. I gave my opinion, but I’ll keep it to myself. There are people who know more about what’s going on. It’s a business, but I’m focused on my squad. Fermín has shown many times how important he is to us. He can help us a lot.”
However, even apart from the situation of Fermin Lopez, there is another pressing matter to address as well. Barça midfielder Gavi was recently injured, and he is now expected to miss the upcoming game against Rayo Vallecano. However, perhaps due to this injury, Lopez’s exit could be reconsidered by Barça as well.
