Hannah Hampton has been called out by Euro 2025 rival Cata Coll over claims that the England star threw her opposing goalkeeper’s water bottle into the grandstand during the final.
England and Hampton got the better of Coll and Spain during their penalty shootout triumph in the final of Euro 2025.
Since the tournament, Hampton has gained traction for comments suggesting that she threw Coll’s water bottle – containing penalty notes – into the grandstand during the shootout.
Coll has suggested that Hampton was not telling the truth in a comment on her social media account.
In a social media post, Cata Coll responded to a video where Hannah Hampton claimed that she threw the Barcelona goalkeeper’s water bottle to the England fans in the grandstand.
Coll posted two laughing with tears emojis and wrote: “Okay okay, calm calm down. At least if it were true…”
The Spain goalkeeper saved penalties from Beth Mead and Leah Williamson during the penalty shootout. Mead had to retake her penalty after she made double contact following a slip.
Coll could not save penalties from Alex Greenwood, Niamh Charles and Chloe Kelly, with the latter scoring the winning penalty.
Kelly is also the favourite with betting sites to win the Sports Personality of the Year award.
Hannah Hampton suggested she threw the water bottle of Cata Coll into the grandstand, during an appearance on talkSPORT.
The Chelsea star said: “The Spanish keeper had it (the penalty information) on her bottle, so I thought when she was going in goal, I’d just pick it up and chuck it into the English fans so she can’t have it.
‘I don’t ever put it on a bottle because anyone can do that so I put it on my arm.’
Sam Matterface replied: “Picked up her bottle and threw it?”
“Yeah it wasn’t hard,” Hampton responded. “When she’s gone in the goal, it’s on its own isn’t it? It’s in the towel.”
Hampton said she swapped Coll’s bottle with her own plain bottle and that the Spain goalkeeper looked confused.
‘She was walking back to take the penalty and I was walking the other way and she was so confused, and I was just trying not to burst out laughing, being like, “I don’t know what’s happening!”.’
Television cameras did not catch the water bottle throwing on television so it’s unsure as to whether Hampton or Coll are correct.
However, it was Hampton who emerged victorious after saving penalties from Aitana Bonmati and Mariona Caldontey, while Salma Paralluelo could not hit the target.
