Further details emerge on Barcelona finances, Javier Tebas wades in and what they need to sign Nico Williams | OneFootball

Barcelona are increasingly confident of having the financial muscle to sign Nico Williams this summer, as per the latest reports from Catalonia. While they are still well in excess of their salary limit currently, they believe they will pull off the necessary deals to be able to sign the Basque winger.

According to MD, Barcelona believe that they will move back within their salary limit, despite not having announced a deal to pay the uncovered €100m they are due from Libero, or having signed a new sponsorship deal with Nike. Their club sources ‘assure’ there will be positive news this month.

They say Barcelona will need around €25-30m in their salary limit to make the Williams signing this summer if they get back into a situation where they can sign without restrictions. That would translate to giving Williams a small wage rise on his current deal, a six-year contract and paying his €58m release clause. If they are under restrictions for what they can sign, they would be forced to ammortise the deal over four years, not six, and obviously could only use a percentage of what they save and sell.

If Williams wants to earn the most money, then he will head to the Premier League, but if he is keen to join friend Lamine Yamal, then they feel they have a good shot. The same report says they do not need to sell Raphinha to make the deal happen, although that has been contradicted by other reports.

La Liga President Javier Tebas has also waded into the issue, sending a message of optimism to Barcelona fans.

“This year, of all the recent years, is the one that is the easiest. Barcelona knows what it has to do to sign players, they know financial fair play,they handle it well. They are emerging from their complicated economic situation and we will see if they solve those few issues they have to in order to add the important signings they expect.”

“There is an essential fact. Three years ago Barcelona had a first team salary bill of €650m, today it is €450m, €250m less, which is now more acceptable for a team like Barcelona. It is at the levels of Real Madrid in terms of wage bill, but Madrid has had its homework well done for many years and that is why they can sign players,” he told Diario AS.

Williams’ performances at the Euros, and his relationship with Barcelona’s players in the Spain camp, have certainly seemed to propel into the forefront of the hive mind at Barcelona. The excitement about the 21-year-old winger continues to grow, and certainly it benefits Barcelona to continue fuelling it. Unless they do get those deals done though, then it will matter little.
