Manchester United’s ongoing striker search has led them to a former target in the form of Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani.

Fans will be well aware that the Red Devils were heavily linked with Muani before his £76.4 million Parc des Princes switch, after which they landed on Rasmus Hojlund, who signed in a £72m package from Atalanta.

In fairness, neither striker’s tenure has fared the way they or their clubs hoped it would prior to their mega-money transfers, leaving both with uncertain futures this summer.

Why Muani is heading for a premature PSG exit

Muani has struggled to cement a starting role under Luis Enrique since his Eintracht Frankfurt departure; in his one-and-a-half seasons in Paris, he has been limited to just 15 league starts out of a possible 41. The Frenchman has made 54 appearances in total, scoring 11 goals and assisting seven.

When it became clear he would continue playing a reduced role after Christmas, he joined Juventus on loan for the second half of the campaign, where he has enjoyed an improved few months of action.

Muani has returned 10 goals and three assists in 21 matches for the Old Lady, including three goal contributions in the two Club World Cup fixtures he’s started.

United now in the mix for Muani’s signature

Such improved performances have left Juventus crossing their fingers that they can sign the 26-year-old — whom compatriot Kylian Mbappe hailed as a ‘complete’ striker — permanently upon the culmination of his loan in mid-July. Elsewhere, Chelsea have registered their interest from abroad, as well as United.

French outlet L’Equipe has confirmed that the Reds are among Muani’s suitors now that the window has reopened, although they are currently thought to have less of a chance of sealing his signature in comparison to the two other sides — both of which secured Champions League qualification last term.

It comes as another unfortunate blow for INEOS to navigate, having already been snubbed by Liam Delap and Viktor Gyokeres, with the latter giving priority to Arsenal in negotiations.
