Former Barcelona & Spain star Thiago comes to decision to retire | OneFootball

A once-iconic figure in Spanish football has this week come to the definitive decision to hang up his boots.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who points towards Thiago Alcantara as the player in question.

Midfielder Thiago, for his part, is fresh off what marked something of a nightmare campaign at club level, with Premier League giants Liverpool.

Owing to a fresh string of injury problems, the Spaniard managed just a solitary appearance, for five minutes in a meeting with Arsenal back in February.

This, unfortunately, has long proven the story for Thiago, a wonderfully-talented midfield operator whose career has been blighted by fitness woes.

And, evidently, the Spanish international has come to the conclusion that enough is enough…

As per the aforementioned Fabrizio Romano:

‘Thiago Alcantara has decided to retire from professional football. Former Barça, Bayern, Liverpool and Spain player has made his decision.’

Still just 33 years of age, Thiago is now expected to take up a new role in the game, be it on the touchline, or in the boardroom.
