Fermin Lopez was by far the most talked-about player in Spain during the final week of the summer transfer window, as he was closely linked with a move to Chelsea.
Amid reports that Barcelona were willing to listen to offers for the Spaniard, the Premier League giants wanted to seal a late move for the player.
However, the move did not materialise as Fermin never really showcased any desire to join Chelsea, while Barcelona themselves were adamant about their steep price tag of €90 million.
Throughout this saga, Fermin remained tight-lipped about his future. But in an exclusive interview with Mundo Deportivo, the player has finally broken his silence.
Fermin revealed that it was never his intention to leave Barcelona while acknowledging the interest from Chelsea.
“My priority has always been to be at Barcelona. I arrived when I was 12; it was my dream to be here, to be able to reach the first team.
Speaking of Chelsea’s interest, the forward said, “It’s always a compliment when there’s interest from other clubs, but the truth is, I always had the idea of staying at Barça and being able to succeed here.”

Fermin went on to talk about the support he received from Barcelona fans, who urged him not to leave the club.
“Yes, it’s true. Not just this week, but since I joined the first team, I’ve felt very loved by the culés. It’s appreciated that I’m an important player for Barça,” he said.
Barcelona, too, had played a key role in convincing the young attacker to remain in Catalonia, Fermin revealed.
Talking about the support received from the club, Fermin said, “It’s been very important, because I’ve always fought to be here, to play for Barça.
“My goal is to stay here. You know, in football, you never know, and there are things that don’t depend on you, but my priority has always been to stay at Barça.“
