MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup Final pits defending champions and nine-time winners Mexico against the United States, seven-time winners of the tournament, on Sunday at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, USA.

The two nations meet in the championship match for an eight time. Of the seven previous clashes in the Final, Mexico has won five, while the United States has claimed victory twice.

The historic rivalry has presented many epic showdowns in the previous 79 all-time encounters between the two most successful nations in the Gold Cup history.

Mexico leads the overall series with 38 wins to 24 for the USA, and 17 draws. Despite Mexico leading the all-time series, USA has been victorious in five of the past eight meetings.

1993 – Statement win for Mexico

July 25, 1993 – Estadio Azteca, Mexico City

Mexico claimed its first Gold Cup title with a dominant 4-nil win over the United States. Ignacio Ambríz, Luis Roberto Alves, and Guillermo Cantú got onto the scoresheet, while an own goal from Desmond Armstrong rounded out the result for Mexico.

1998 – Third crown for El Tri

February 15, 1998 – Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles, California

Luis “El Matador” Hernández netted the lone goal of the match to secure a 1-nil victory and a third Gold Cup title for Mexico.

2007 – Fourth championship for USA

June 24, 2007 – Soldier Field, Chicago

United States came out on top 2-1 to earn its first win against Mexico in a Gold Cup Final. Andrés Guardado opened the scoring for Mexico, but Landon Donovan and Benny Feilhaber completed the comeback as the Stars and Stripes secured a fourth title.

2009 – Record win for Mexico

July 26, 2009 – Soldier Field, Chicago

Mexico recorded the biggest win ever in a Gold Cup final, routing the United States 5-

nil to clinch its fifth crown. The goals came from Gerardo Torrado, Giovani dos Santos, Carlos Vela, José Antonio Castro, and Guillermo Franco. Notably, the team was managed by current Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre in one of his two previous stints at the helm.

2011 – Mexico victorious in thrilling Final

June 25, 2011 – Rose Bowl, Pasadena, California

In one of the most thrilling finals in tournament history, Mexico came back after being down 0-2 down to beat USA 4-2. Michael Bradley and Donovan had given the hosts the lead, but a brace from Pablo Barrera, and strikes from Andrés Guardado and Giovani dos Santos sealed an epic comeback as Mexico won a sixth title.

2019 – Eighth title for Mexico

July 7, 2019 – Soldier Field, Chicago

A second-half strike from Jonathan dos Santos sealed a hard-fought 1-nil victory for Mexico, marking a third consecutive Final win over its rivals, and securing an eighth Gold Cup crown.

2021 – Seventh cup for the Stars and Stripes

August 1, 2021 – Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas

The United States emerged victorious 1-nil in extra time thanks to a header from Miles Robinson to lift its seventh Gold Cup trophy.
