The Tinkerman’s second spell in Sardinia will be the last of his managerial career.

Ranieri will retire from coaching after managing the likes of Chelsea, AS Roma, Juventus, Parma and Atletico Madrid.

Nevertheless, his most iconic stint remains at Leicester City. Ranieri famously guided the Foxes towards a shocking Premier League triumph in 2015/16.

This remains one of the most stunning achievements in the history of the sport.

The Italian coach will surely be pleased to see his beloved Leicester return to the Premier League after securing promotion. On the other hand, Leeds United and Southampton will battle out at Wembley this Sunday to follow suit. Follow the link to buy Championship Playoff Final tickets.

For their part, Cagliari released a statement announcing the departure of the veteran tactician.

“Mister Ranieri bids farewell to Cagliari,” said the club’s note via FcInterNews.

“In his two experiences with the club, he always managed to lead the team to reaching its final objective.

“Already the author of two promotions in the past (from C to A) and one salvation in the top flight, in the last year and a half he has achieved yet another masterpiece with the victory in the playoffs and the conquest of staying in the top flight this season.”

Ranieri secured promotion to the top flight last season after beating Bari in a dramatic Serie B playoff fixture. Cagliari captain Leonardo Pavoletti scored a last-minute winner to turn the tie upside-down.

This term, the Isolani have been displaying great courage and determination. Their fixtures have always been entertaining, often providing late drama.

In the end, they managed to avoid relegation with one match to spare after beating Lecce last weekend away from home. This sparked wild celebrations at the Via del Mare.

Therefore, the Islanders will take part in the next edition of Serie A, but they will be without their famous manager.

So it remains to be seen who will replace Ranieri in the dugout at the Unipol Domus.

In the meantime, Ranieri will be in the dugout one last time when Cagliari host Fiorentina on Thursday in the final Serie A round.
