It’s taken a couple of months to reach this point after results began to slide, but Chelsea and their fans are officially back in panic mode.
After a bright start to the season, things continue to slide, and there’s a real sense of deja-vu setting in.
We’ve been here before, and it’s not nice. We’re effectively right back where we were then Thomas Tuchel was sacked – battling to get into the top 4 and without any chance of a real trophy.
How long will players stick around knowing they won’t win anything better than a Conference League? Not long, we fear. Those few good players who the sporting directors have managed to secure will surely think about leaving if they see their future being more of the same.
Cole Palmer seeks space out wide.
The biggest fear for any fan is losing star boy Cole Palmer, and that’s something that Shaun Wright-Phillips talked about recently. The good news is that the former Blues winger is confident we can hold on to him even if our collapse continues and we miss out on the top 4:
“Even if Chelsea miss out on the Champions League, there’s not a chance Cole Palmer leaves. I think he’s found his home and Chelsea will do everything in their power to keep him for as long as possible. If they let him go, it would be a big mistake on their behalf,” SWP said in quotes picked up by DAZN.
“At his age and with his quality, he’s the player they should be building the team around. If they can give him as much freedom as possible going forwards and as little work to do defensively, then he’ll only keep getting better.”
We sure hope you’re Wright, Shaun.
