Lamine Yamal has been named as winner of the Golden Boy award in 2024, handed to the best footballer playing in Europe aged 21 or under.
Yamal’s recognition continues a stunning year for the Barcelona teenager, who broke into the senior side last season in a record-breaking campaign.
In the summer, he became the youngest player and goalscorer at a European Championship, claiming the Young Player of the Tournament award for his role in Spain’s success at Euro 2024. He scored once – a stunning semi-final effort against France – and provided four assists for La Roja.
This season, he has scored six goals and provided eight assists in 16 games in all competitions.
Having won the Kopa Trophy at this year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony, he has now added the Golden Boy accolade to a fast-growing collection of individual honours.
Yamal has joined some illustrious names as a winner of the Golden Boy award, first introduced in 2003. He is the fifth Spaniard to claim the prize, after Cesc Fabregas, Isco, and current Barcelona teammates Pedri and Gavi.
