Reinier Jesus’ time at Real Madrid has officially come to an end. The Brazilian midfielder has completed a permanent move to Atletico Mineiro, returning to his home country after five challenging years in Europe.

Real Madrid confirmed the transfer, revealing that they will retain 50% of the player’s rights despite his departure. Reinier, now 23, has signed a contract with Atletico Mineiro that runs until 2029.

The move ends a spell that never truly took off. After joining Los Blancos for €30 million from Flamengo in 2020, Reinier failed to make a single first-team appearance.

Instead, he played for Real Madrid Castilla before being loaned out to several clubs, including Borussia Dortmund, Girona, Frosinone, and Granada.

In an official statement, Real Madrid thanked the player for his time with the club, saying they wished him “all the best to him and his family in this new stage of his life.”

A thankful farewell despite first-team frustration

Despite never breaking into Real Madrid’s senior squad, Reinier shared an emotional farewell on social media, expressing nothing but gratitude toward the club.

“In the last five years that I was in Spain, Germany and Italy, I learned in clubs that made me grow a lot as a person and as a professional.

“I know none of this would have been possible without the valuable opportunity Madrid gave me.

“Therefore, today I end my contract with a heart full of pride, gratitude and with a calm conscience!

Reinier will now look to relaunch his career in Brazil, with Atletico Mineiro offering him a fresh start and the chance to finally fulfil the potential that made him one of South America’s brightest young talents.
