Departing Rangers coach Issame Charai is now ‘free to sign’ for a Belgian club as their new head coach, as he is the favourite for the job.

Charai stayed at Rangers initially following the arrival of Russell Martin as the Gers’ new boss earlier this month.

However, on Friday it was confirmed by Rangers that his deal as part of the first team coaching staff has been terminated by mutual consent.

Now it appears that may well open up a move into management for the highly rated coach.

According to Belgian journalist David Van den Broeck, the move leaves Charai ‘free to sign’ for Belgian side Westerlo.

The departing Rangers coach is now the favourite to become the new head coach at the Belgian club.

Westerlo finished in ninth spot in the Belgian Pro League this season, getting into the playoff for the Conference League.

They ultimately missed out on securing a Conference League spot as Sporting Charleroi finished top of the mini league.

Charai has had a series of assistant jobs and will now be looking to make a success of management if he does get the Westerlo job.

All eyes will be on Martin to see how he continues to reshape the Rangers coaching team before the players report back for pre-season.
