Adam Lallana is an elegant Southampton player both on and off the pitch. Regardless, Mark Clattenburg has discussed an unclassy experience with Lallana where the two exchanged words between them.
In the current Southampton camp, Adam Lallana is by far the most successful Premier League player. The 36-year-old has lifted nearly every possible accolade in club football and his on-field genius deservingly makes him one of Southampton's brilliant academy graduates.
Honestly, every Southampton fan takes pride in Lallana's achievements and even considers him an exemplary reference for emerging prodigies.
Still, the Saints must encourage their talent academy to only instil Lallana's positives in them. Now, the reason stems from the fact that the midfield anchor also saw a significant amount of bad days at the office.
Understandably, many players fail to retain their composure in those moments and unfortunately, Lallana also falls in the same bracket.
Though a rather gentlemanly kind of competitor, Lallana never shied away from publicly venting his frustration when things didn't go his way. In fact, he even disagreed with some match officials that even became Premier League headlines in the previous decade.
Now, one of them has come to light where experienced English official Mark Clattenburg spoke to The Overlap Fan Debate about an old Lallana anecdote when the highly accomplished Saint was still a rising star in the making.
To give a brief back-story, Lallana wasn't a big supporter of Clattenburg's decisions. On the contrary, the former felt that Southampton were receiving harsh calls for weaker fouls and decided to confront the latter.
In doing so, Lallana disobeyed the Premier League's sportsmanship spirit which led to a lengthy standoff between the duo.
Keeping biases aside, these actions reflect poorly on Lallana's part. Yet, the positive aspect is that he learned an important lesson from this game and remained less involved in conflicts and off-field dramas since then.
