Uruguayan has failed to live up to his hefty price tag
Napoli have submitted a bid for Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.
The Serie A champions are on the hunt for another centre-forward to bolster their attacking ranks.
Antonio Conte currently has Romelu Lukaku, Giacomo Raspadori, and Giovanni Simeone to pick from, while Victor Osimhen returns to the club after a loan spell at Galatasaray.
Osimhen, however, will not stick around at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium having fallen out with the club last summer. Al-Hilal and a return to Turkey are his most likely destinations, although there is some Premier League interest in him.
Now, Napoli are eyeing Nunez in a move that could surprise a few, although the Uruguayan international has struggled for consistent game time since Arne Slot assumed the reins at Anfield.
Nunez has played 95 Premier League games for the Reds since his £64million move from Benfica back in 2022, and he has scored 25 times in the English top flight.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Napoli have submitted a bid of €50m plus €5m in bonuses, with Liverpool valuing their striker at closer to €60m.
Nunez is thought to have given the ‘green light’ to a move to Naples, but the Italian club will have to meet the Premier League champions’ demands if they are to prise him away from Merseyside.
Lorenzo Lucca, the Udinese forward, has been earmarked by Conte’s side as an alternative option if the Nunez negotiations take too long.
