Chelsea host Brentford in the Premier League this weekend as the Blues look to edge closer to Champions League qualification.
Enzo Maresca’s side beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 on Thursday night to climb back into the top four. Chelsea next face another London derby, with a short trip to face West London neighbours Brentford at the GTech Community Stadium.
Maresca will hope the short distance can help improve a woeful away record. Chelsea have not won on the road in the Premier League since beating Spurs on December 8th.
It’s seven straight away games without a win for Chelsea, who have also won just one of their last six meetings with Brentford. That win was the 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge earlier this season.
Enzo Maresca welcomed back Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson for the win over Tottenham on Thursday. Palmer assisted Enzo Fernandez’s winner, while Maresca reserved added praise for Jackson.
“Nico for us, I’ve said many times since we started, that he is an important player because he’s a threat for the defensive line,” said Maresca.
“Off the ball he’s pressing everyone. For sure with Nico we are a different team.”
Wesley Fofana was a notable absentee from Thursday’s squad, while Romeo Lavia is sidelined with another issue in his injury-hit time with the club. Mykhailo Mudryk remains suspended after failing a doping test.
Chelsea predicted XI: Sanchez; James, Chalobah, Colwill, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez, Palmer; Madueke, Neto, Jackson.
Brentford host Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday 6th April 2025. Kick-off is 14:00 BST.
