Chelsea fans will probably be pretty disappointed in hearing the name of the goalkeeper they were close to signing before Robert Sanchez.
The Blues stopper is not rated at all amongst the Chelsea fan base, and he has even now lost his number one spot to Filip Jorgensen, who once again kept the sticks against Southampton in their last Premier League game.
The Blues won the game 4-0 in what was a much needed convincing performance, with goals coming from Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto, Levi Colwill, and Marc Cucurella.
The Saints were a very poor opposition of course, but Chelsea really needed a big win and a big performance, and that is exactly what they did last night right in the nick of time as they look to keep challenging for that all important Champions League spot.
Neto was superb playing as the number 9 and as well as getting his goal, he has explained why he loves playing as a striker with a hilarious answer!

According to our own writer Simon Phillips in his latest report on his Substack site, Chelsea were very close to signing current Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels before they eventually decided on Robert Sanchez from Brighton.
Phillips writes:
‘Chelsea signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton in the summer of 2023, but at that time, they were looking at a few other names to sign.
‘One of them was Matz Sels, who was playing for Strasbourg at that time.
‘SPTC sources have confirmed that Sels was very close to joining Chelsea before they moved in on Sanchez.
‘Chelsea decided on Sanchez, and then Sels went to Nottingham Forest in the next window in the winter.’
I’m sure most Blues fans would have much preferred to sign Sels over Sanchez!
