It’s the 23rd day in June – time to check out how our number 23 is getting on this month.

As ever, it promises to be a funny old summer for Trevoh Chalobah. The last two years have seen the club trying to flog him through the transfer window, only for an injury to disrupt their plans the first time, and a lack of big offers killing a potential deal last summer.
In the end he was loaned out to Crystal Palace then recalled in January, to impress once again at Stamford Bridge. That made it two seasons in a row that he came in from the cold to improve the defence at the turn of the year.
Now it’s not quite clear what his status is – has he finally convinced those in charge he deserves a place in the squad, or is the temptation of selling an academy produced player for “pure profit” just too tempting for them to ignore?
The fact he was taken on the preseason tour was one good sign. Last year he was controversially left at home as we tried to freeze him out and force a move. This time he’s not only gone to the USA, he’s already started a game. It’s no guarantee, but it’s a very positive development for those of us who want Trevoh to stay.
By those terms, it’s been a very good month indeed.
We still suspect they would take any impressive offer that comes in, but compared to previous years we think he’s got a better chance of staying put. If we do swoop for a big money elite defender in the next months, that could quickly change of course.
