Celtic are monitoring West Ham United midfielder Andy Irving after a late approach to the Hammers at the end of last summer’s window, according to The Scotsman.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers wants more signings at the Parkhead club this summer following the recruitment of Kieran Tierney, Ross Doohan, Hayato Inamura, Benjamin Nygren, Callum Osmand and Shin Yamada.
Irving has now emerged as a target for the Hoops, but they could face competition from Rangers and a number of clubs from the Premier League, Germany and Italy.
The Scotland international made 11 appearances for the Hammers last term and may need to feature more regularly this season if he wants to go to the World Cup next year.
Celtic feel Irving could be a worthwhile addition to their midfield, and they will hope to pip fierce competition to his services.
The Hammers have been linked with some midfielders this summer and the 25-year-old may need to leave as it does not appear he is in the plans of manager Graham Potter.
He scored in the 3-1 pre-season friendly win over Swiss club Grasshoppers last month and also featured on their pre-season tour of the United States of America.
Irving played against Manchester United, Everton and Bournemouth but was an unused substitute against Lille.
He may find himself out of favour at the London Stadium club but would be a solid addition to the Celtic midfield as they look to impress in the league phase of the Champions League this term.
The Scottish midfielder brings much-needed experience to the table having featured in the Scottish Premiership for Heart of Midlothian .
Irving left for Turkgucu Munich, who were in the German third-tier, in 2021 before moving to Austrian top-flight club Klagenfurt.
He joined West Ham in the summer of 2023, remaining on loan at Klagenfurt and ending the 2023-24 season with 14 goals and 12 assists.
