Cremonese are the latest club to show an interest in former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, who had been linked with a switch to Scottish champions Celtic.

The Foxes legend left the club following their relegation last season, with Vardy making 500 appearances for the East Midlands outfit, scoring 200 goals, and helping them to the Premier League title and an FA Cup.

Even though he is 38, the former England international wants to keep on playing, and a host of clubs have been suggested as potential destinations for Vardy.

Most recently, a reunion with Brendan Rodgers had been mooted, with Celtic looking to add to their strikeforce ahead of the deadline.

However, it appears the Glasgow giants could face a battle for his signature, as Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that Cremonese are keen on Vardy, describing his potential arrival as a 'dream' for the club.

The newly-promoted side would offer the player a chance to taste football on the continent for the first time in his career, although it remains to be seen whether they have the pull to convince Vardy.

Cremonese started life back in Serie A in style last weekend, as they beat AC Milan at San Siro in their opening fixture.

All connected to Leicester will no doubt be following Vardy’s next move with interest, as he will always be loved at the King Power Stadium given what he has done for the club.

In truth, it’s a surprise that he remains without a club, as the season has obviously started, and whilst Vardy is sure to keep himself in good condition, he will need time to get up to match fitness, so he would benefit from sorting out a move quickly.

It remains to be seen whether Celtic’s failure to reach the Champions League changes their stance on a potential deal for Vardy, or whether the prospect of Cremonese appeals to the player, given they are expected to be battling to avoid relegation this season.

Either way, you would expect a decision to be made swiftly, and despite it taking a long time to get sorted, Vardy appears to have plenty of options on the table, but it’s a big decision for him and his family, so you can understand why he is assessing all options.
