Celtic captain full of admiration for red-hot German winger

Kuhn’s 10th goal of the season against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Sunday afternoon was his 21st goal contribution in all competitions this campaign. A staggering stat given that it is only the middle of November, and there is still a significant part of the season to play.

Red-hot German winger

Already, the red-hot German winger has been linked to English Premier League moves in January. Fortunately, Celtic are not in a position to sell and can keep a hold of their star man whose performances on the continent and domestically have been scintillating.

The turnaround in form from the 24 year-old who signed for the Hoops in January for £2.8 million from Austrian side Rapid Wien has been remarkable. Brendan Rodgers has developed him into the complete winger. Dental surgery kept Kuhn out of action at the beginning of his Hoops career but having recovered and managing to build a full pre-season programme under his belt, he has become the go-to man for Celtic this season.

Favourable comparisons to Jota and Scotty Sinclair

Comparing his 21-goal contribution tally to previous successful Celtic wingers in recent campaigns has been eye-opening.

Jota completed 29 G/A in the Treble winning 2022/2023 season under the mentorship of Ange Postecoglou. During his wonderful four-year spell at Paradise, Scotty Sinclair had 36, 34 and 34 contributions in campaigns 2016/2017, 2017/2018, and 2018/2019 respectively.

Undoubtedly, Nicolas Kuhn could surge past all those records convincingly by the time Brendan Rodgers’ side reaches May. Then truly he would immerse himself as a modern day Celtic great.

Kuhn has been unplayable

Speaking to BBC Scotland on Kuhn’s incredible form, captain Callum McGregor was full of praise for his teammate. “Unbelievable. His form has been incredible, especially for a young wide player. Sometimes it can fluctuate a little bit, but since the start of the season, I think probably since that Man City game in pre-season, he’s been unplayable, and his numbers obviously back that up as well.

“So, he’s in brilliant form, and when you’ve got someone like that at the top of the pitch, you know he can relieve pressure for you and get big goals.”

With no international break to worry about for now, Nicolas Kuhn can enjoy a short break from the pressurised Glasgow environment. However, when he returns his manager will be looking for him to add more goals and assists as the Hoops compete across four different competitions between now and January in a congested fixture list.
