Carlo Ancelotti set to leave Real Madrid with favourite replacement named | OneFootball

A change in manager is all but assured at La Liga giants Real Madrid upon the close of the campaign.

That’s according to the reliable David Ornstein and Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, who have on Saturday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabéu .

The subject of Ancelotti’s future has of course dominated the headlines across Spain over the course of the last 72 hours.

This comes with Real Madrid’s exit from the Champions League at the hands of Arsenal having given rise to widespread speculation, pointing towards an incoming exit for the Italian.

And if the latest word stemming from the media this weekend is anything to go by, then such an outcome now appears more likely than ever.

As per The Athletic:

‘Carlo Ancelotti is expected to leave his position as Real Madrid head coach, with the Brazil national team his most likely destination.’

Not only that, but it is added:

‘Madrid have sounded out Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso this season and the former Spain international is in pole position to replace the Italian should a coaching change take place.’
