Barcelona are fast-tracking the work at Spotify Camp Nou to ensure it is available to host the Joan Gamper trophy ahead of next season, at least in partial capacity.

The club hope to get all the required permits before the date of the traditional pre-season friendly and thus utilise the game not only as a special night of returning home but also as a test of the newly constructed facilities and the access for the fans.

The mayor of Barcelona, however, clarified earlier today that, no exception will be made in the case of Spotify Camp Nou and that it will be permitted to open only if all the security checks and permits are granted as per the protocol.

Work in full flow

As relayed by Mundo Deportivo in a recent update, the club is ensuring that work is in full flow to complete all the required infrastructure that is deemed necessary for the safety of the visiting fans on August 10th.

Work is progressing at a rapid rate and emphasis is being placed on completing the various access routes in the stadium for the passage of spectators.

The Spanish outlet brings to light that all the outdoor areas have already been paved and that the entrances look ‘clean’ already. With construction still in progress and reduced fans allowed, not all access points will operate at full capacity on the night.

Yet, the club intends to maintain entrances in all areas open including the Avinguda Joan XXIII and the Travessera de Les Corts. Temporary walkways will. Be provided in areas that are not completed including the Maternitat area.

Should everything go to plan and the administration secure the permit to open the stadium in August, the Joan Gamper Trophy will serve as Barcelona’s first game back at the historic venue. Otherwise, the wait will continue until September.
