Christian Falk offers some insights on the recently emerging stories that linked Bayern Munich with Antony.

The Brazilian signed for Manchester United in the summer of 2022 for a whopping £86 million. He was one of the first acquisitions made under the tutelage of then-manager Erik ten Hag. The two men reconnected following their prosperous collaboration at Ajax, but neither managed to find much joy at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman was sacked in October 2024 shortly after penning a new contract, so it was only a matter of time before the 24-year-old followed suit, especially after failing to find himself a prominent role in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.

Therefore, Antony ended up sealing a transfer to Real Betis. Interestingly, he has been on sensational form ever since, finding a new lease on life at the Andalusian club. He has thus far contributed with three goals and an assist in his five appearances for the club, while winning over the fans and neutrals alike with his ‘incredible’ and ‘extraordinary’ flicks and tricks.

However, his deal with Betis will expire at the end of the season, and Betis don’t have the option to buy him. While the club’s CEO has recently admitted his desire to keep the winger beyond the current campaign, the player’s future remains far from certain.

In recent days, some rumours linked him with a potential transfer to Bayern Munich, suggesting he could be a replacement for the recently departing Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane.

Nevertheless, Falk insists that the Bavarians already had their chance to sign Antony and weren’t too keen.

“Not True: Bayern already had the chance to sign the player [Antony] once. But those responsible were not one hundred per cent convinced,” wrote the Bundesliga inside in his latest column for The Daily Briefing.

“That’s still the case today. Moreover, like Foden, he would currently be too expensive.”

Hence, it remains to be seen what the future will hold for the mercurial talent whose contract with Man Utd remains valid until June 2027.
