A big performance from Tommy Conway on Sunday night could allow Bristol City to raise his price tag.

Whilst he has only featured in a friendly against Finland so far for The Tartan Army, Scotland's positioning in the group means Conway could be thrown on in a last-ditch attempt to qualify for the round of 16.

With the Scots currently sitting in third place with just a solitary point on the board, a victory against Hungary is likely the only way they will make it through to the next stage. Despite their woeful goal difference, four points should be acceptable to see them through as one of the four best third-placed teams.

Goals will be needed then and with their current strikers not firing, if Scotland need a late winner then an opportunity for Conway may yet get his moment.

Conway could be Scotland's saviour

With a win needed, could the Bristol City youngster be the man to help Scotland?

Well, he has displayed his goalscoring prowess frequently at the Robins. After making his breakthrough two seasons ago, he has been a steady fixture in Nigel Pearson's and Liam Manning's sides despite his youthful age.

24 goals across the past two years is certainly something to build on and his strikes against West Ham in the FA Cup have displayed that he can do it on the biggest stage.

Whilst his record is not the equivalent of an experienced striker like Lawrence Shankland, the youngster has shown that he can be a threat and he very nearly bagged a winner for the Scots when he came off the bench on his debut – with only a brilliant save denying him.

Internationally, no opportune moment has arrived as yet for Conway, so some faith in him from Clarke would not go amiss with his previous omissions of the striker suggesting he does not trust him fully.

Sunday may yet prove telling and Bristol City will hope to see Conway perform to the best of his ability in a bid to boost his transfer fee.

Bristol City are renowned for giving academy talents an opportunity to shine before cashing in on them for significant fees. In recent years, we have seen the likes of Alex Scott, Joe Bryan and Bobby Decordova-Reid all leave the South-West club for good money, and it could be time for Conway to move on.

There has been long-term interest from Scottish rivals Rangers and Celtic while reports this summer suggest that the Robins are open to selling the academy product due to the delays over a new contract.

However, a key factor of this deal will be pricing, which could be affected by his performance on Sunday and possibly after that.

If the Robins want to keep Conway for next season, then a pre-contract deal compensation fee would be worth somewhere in the region of £300,000 in January 2025.

However, they're clearly looking to avoid getting such a nominal fee and could see the value of any summer sale boosted by a strong showing for Scotland on Sunday.

With Celtic and Rangers both struggling financially, they may yet struggle to meet the seven-figure fee Bristol City will request this summer. For Premier League clubs, this may come as the opportune moment to steal in by providing a suitable offer.

So, for the Robins' hierarchy, all eyes will be firmly on the Scotland vs Hungary game in the hope Steve Clarke gives Conway an opportunity to impress.
