Milan sounded out Bologna’s Giovanni Fabbian this morning, but the Italian midfielder is not up for sale.

Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri wants to sign a box-to-box midfielder before the end of the summer transfer window, and sources with direct knowledge of the matter tell me that the Rossoneri sounded out Bologna’s Fabbian this morning.

As my colleague Gianluigi Longari found out, however, Bologna do not consider selling the product of the Inter academy, which means the Rossoneri will likely have to look elsewhere for midfield reinforcement.

Fabbian, 22, has just started his third season at the Stadio Dall’Ara, where he scored nine goals and provided three assists in 71 appearances across all competitions.

Milan have already made profound changes to their midfield department this summer, selling Tijjani Reijnders and signing Luka Modric, Ardon Jashari and Samuele Ricci.

The Rossoneri started the new Serie A season with a surprising home 2-1 defeat against newly promoted side Cremonese on Saturday.
