Bologna have joined the likes of Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Napoli in the race to sign Mario Hermoso on a free transfer.

This according to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews. They report that the Rossoblu see the 29-year-old as a possible replacement for Ricardo Calafiori in defense.

This summer, Hermoso is one of the biggest name players on the free transfer market yet to be snapped up.

Some of the strongest links to the Spanish international have been from Inter.

The Nerazzurri have reportedly shown an interest in signing Hermoso for a number of months. This is hardly a surprise considering their propensity for taking advantage of free transfer opportunities.

Hermoso would certainly be a player who would fit into Inter’s back three system.

Moreover, the links have reemerged in the last few weeks. This is because the Nerazzurri are specifically targeting a defender who can play on the left of a back three.

The same is also true of the Nerazzurri’s Serie A rivals Napoli. The Partenopei are revamping their backline for new coach Antonio Conte.

Therefore, the fact that Hermoso has played on the left of a back three for several seasons at Atletico Madrid certainly makes him a natural target for Napoli as well.

Meanwhile, earlier in the summer there were links between Hermoso and Premier League clubs Aston Villa and West Ham United.

And AC Milan have also reportedly made contact with Hermoso’s representatives.

But it is not just, Inter, Napoli, and Milan who are interested in signing Hermoso among Italian clubs, reports DAZN.

Bologna would also be looking to bring the former Espanyol defender to Serie A.

The Emilian club have just sold Ricardo Calafiori to Arsenal in a big money deal.

Therefore, Bologna will look to replace Calafiori.

And Hermoso, like Calafiori, is a left-footed defender.

Moreover, Bologna can offer Hermoso the opportunity to play Champions League football next season, having managed an improbable qualification for Europe’s top club competition last campaign.
