Blackburn Rovers are interested in signing Saudi Arabia international Marwan Al Sahafi.
Blackburn are interested in Al Ittihad’s Marwan Al-Sahafi, although they are not close to finalising a deal for the winger.
After just missing out on the play-offs, Rovers are gearing up for their first full season under the guidance of Valerien Ismael.
And, the Frenchman is expecting to be busy as he looks to reshape the squad, with the club having already sealed a deal for Dion De Neve.
It has been suggested that Al-Sahafi was a target for the Championship side, with the Lancashire Telegraph confirming their interest.
They state that Rovers have made an ‘initial enquiry’ for the 21-year-old, but it hasn’t progressed beyond that stage just yet.
Al Sahafi is currently contracted to the Saudi champions, but he spent the previous campaign on loan at Beerschot, scoring six goals in the Belgian top-flight, playing both out wide and through the middle as a striker.
The attacker has been away with the Saudi national team for their recent World Cup qualifiers, as he came off the bench for their win against Bahrain, before featuring for the final half hour of their 2-1 loss to Australia.
We know that Blackburn won’t have the biggest budget in the Championship, so this summer they have to be smart with who they recruit, and to seek potential bargains.
It seems they will be targeting younger players who have the potential to improve, and Al-Sahafi fits the bill.
He had a decent goal return in the Belgian league last season, and his age means he does have room to develop. Crucially, he will add pace and a direct threat to Ismael’s side, which is something they have lacked at times this season.
Of course, there would be risks to the transfer, as he is unproven, and the physicality and demands of the Championship could be too much, but Al Sahafi does have potential.
Clearly, this potential transfer is a long way off, but it does give an insight into the type of player that Blackburn will look to bring in over the next few months.
After a difficult start, Ismael started to pick up results on a consistent basis towards the end of the campaign, and it will be interesting to see how he reshapes the squad and brings in signings that are suited to his style of play moving forward.
