Championship sides Blackburn Rovers and Oxford United have ‘concrete interest’ in a Belgian midfielder who could move to England this summer.
Blackburn enjoyed a good run towards the end of the Championship season where they won four of their final five games, but it was not enough to secure a playoff spot.
Oxford United finished comfortably above the relegation zone, with the appointment of Gary Rowett as boss proving to be an inspired move on the part of the U’s.
Now both clubs are in the market to strengthen their sides over the summer as they prepare to go again and their eyes have been drawn towards the Netherlands for an addition.
They are keen on Heracles midfielder Brian De Keersmaecker and, according to Belgian journalist David Van den Broeck, hold a ‘concrete interest’ in signing him.
It is suggested that the 25-year-old midfielder could well move from Dutch football into English football in the summer transfer window.
He is viewed as a leader at Heracles and wears the captain’s armband for the Dutch top flight side, a quality which is likely to appeal to both Blackburn and Oxford United.
A central midfielder, De Keersmaecker made 31 outings in the Eredivisie over the course of the season and chipped in with five goals and three assists.
He played a key role in keeping Heracles away from trouble as they finished in 14th spot in the 18-team league.
The midfielder has another three years left on his contract at the Dutch club, but could well find the prospect of a move to England to be a tempting affair.
He came through the youth ranks at Belgian side Beerschot before switching to Dutch football with FC Eindhoven.
Heracles snapped up the 25-year-old midfielder in the summer of 2023.
