Birmingham fans were looking forward to playing Newcastle United in the FA Cup fourth round.
A sold out crowd saw the home side give United a game in the first half.
However, Newcastle United dominant after the break and Joe Willock sending NUFC into the fifth round.
So, how did Birmingham fans see events on Saturday, on and off the pitch?
Birmingham fans talking after losing to Newcastle United in the FA Cup, commenting via their Small Heath Alliance message board:
‘The Newcastle United away support was dire tonight imo. Admittedly our home atmosphere actually was decent for once which was helped by a very good performance, but for how many Newcastle fans were there and how everyone raves about them, they were pretty dreadful. Did everyone else concur or am I being too harsh?’
‘They were decent, this is b.llocks.’
‘They only sing when they’re winning.’
‘It wasn’t dire. They were fine.
The correct level of respect for opposition, bit of Mickey taking but not ott and enthusiasm for a cup game against a side two divisions below. Wish our platinum plus lot could be more like they were.’
‘From the Gil Merrick upper (not where my season ticket is) they were very loud and constantly singing.’
‘Hardly “limbs” for their goals and they have quite a few speccy fans (no offence Oldham).
Most are complimentary about us. All in all Newcastle and their fans aren’t worth the effort of hating.’
‘It was loud by Blues today so yiou wouldn’t hear the far end much.
I’ve no problem with Newcastle they are miles off the ones I don’t like or rate.’
‘They were fine. Good support. Shame they have had to sell their souls to such despicable owners.
The only thing I care about is us. And as a team and a fanbase tonight we were great.
We are one again.
Haven’t enjoyed a match so much since, I don’t know, when we beat Fulham to stay up a few years back.’
‘Last night shows what it takes out of players when the opposition has the ball for the majority of the game, as we have done to the opposition most of the season. A big exception was Laird. He’s a great athlete. His run down the right late on was brilliant.’
‘The length of time the match was stopped and the stretcher being used seemed to indicate a season ending or year ending injury. A severe gash ought not to keep him out too long. Let’s hope he’s back soon anyway.’
‘When are we going to stop this? Plucky, brave, we haven’t disgraced ourselves.
eff right off with it all. Let’s become winners!’
‘We are a league one team playing against a premier league team, it will take time.’
‘I’ve no problem saying we were superb despite losing to a far superior squad. I enjoyed us playing on the front foot and creating more than we have in several league games. It’s a huge positive for me.
It was a brilliant cup tie. If you couldn’t enjoy that despite the result you maybe need to hop off the journey now’
‘If you started supporting blues to support winners then you’ve made a mistake! But… We are all trying to change that..itll take a long time.’
‘Things I liked…
Fireworks on the roof
JK giving it the ‘who are ya’ to the Jawdees
St.Andrews at its bear pit best
The Brummie bashers, players getting right into them.’
‘That’s the first time in ages ago loss felt like a win. It’s a win for bcfc as a whole..showing everyone what we’re about.
They won’t win the f.a cup either.
The newcastle fans calling us bullies. They got kicked to eff. Welcome to Birmingham.
Their goals were sh.te.
They won by a goal that, imo, shouldn’t have stood. If the lino can make a certain decision from 20 yards that the tv cameras couldn’t make after watching it 8 times then you can only conclude that eagle eyes in the yellow shirt is simply guessing.’
‘Huge fan of the fact we kicked sh.t out of them for a decent portion of it.
We spend most of our time taking the p.ss out of teams of binmen and geography teachers, it’s good to see that when we play actual footballers Chris Davies doesn’t sh.t himself and tell us to play a low block all game, but just tells us to do what we normally do, just more aggressive.’
‘Felt like a proper big occasion.
Can’t help feel we’ve been robbed of a place in the next round though.’
‘Great performance, everyone talking about Blues and how great a game and atmosphere it was, so many positives
Sounds silly but if we were going out the comp that’s the way to do it.’
‘Agreed. It was a cracking match. Big atmosphere. Great goals for us. Stylish play mixed with old skool tackles. Sell-out crowd. Fireworks. Telly. A close encounter where we matched them. Tom W on national TV. Controversial incidents. If we have to exit the FA Cup, that’s how to do it.’
