Beto was in tears after scoring late on to snatch a point for Everton against Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Cottagers took a deserved lead at Goodison Park when former Toffees midfielder Alex Iwobi found the bottom corner from the edge of the box in the second half.

Chasing an equaliser Sean Dyche replaced Dominic Calvert-Lewin with Beto with ten minutes left on the clock, a decision that paid off right at the death.

The 26-year-old met Ashley Young’s cross in the box with his head in the 94th minute to deny Fulham victory and extend Everton’s unbeaten streak to five games.

It was a big moment for the Guinea-Bissau international, who has barely featured for the Merseyside outfit this season, this being his fifth appearance off the bench in the Premier League.

“It means too much for me,” Beto told Sky Sports. “Because I work hard and even if I don’t play I still work hard. I put my head up every week and try to get better.

“For me this goal means too much. To be able to help the team, for me it’s emotional you know. It was hard, well hard. These last weeks were really difficult for me. Here I am this week, we didn’t win but I’m pleased to take a point.

“For the supporters as well, they’ve supported me. They’re always singing my name. As a player you just want to pay it back. I always put it in my mind to be ready as the day may come. And today it came. I’m happy to help the team, to help the Toffees.

“I will enjoy this one tonight. Tomorrow is a day off, I’m thinking about that.”

Defender Michael Keane was sympathetic to the forward’s plight after the game. “Everyone will be buzzing for him. He’s worked so hard and he had to be patient this season.

“I know what it’s like sitting on the bench, it was me last season. When you get your chance you have to take it, and that’s what he’s done this evening.”
