Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly become the latest side to express their interest in a summer swoop for Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho.
Like most of his United teammates, Garnacho has endured a difficult season that currently has the club in 14th place in the Premier League table. The Argentine scored his 10th goal of the campaign in last Sunday’s humbling 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United.
He has also contributed eight assists in the 49 appearances he has made this term but despite these relatively decent numbers, his performances have been a constant source of frustration for supporters, with his decision-making in the final third especially coming into question.
There is uncertainty regarding Garnacho’s future at Old Trafford amid huge question marks over where he fits in a Ruben Amorim team. It’s believed that Napoli tabled an offer to sign the Carrington academy graduate during the January transfer window but a deal failed to get over the line. Chelsea were also strongly linked to him.
Speculation surrounding Garnacho’s future remains rife, with United understood to be willing to offload him for the right price. His sale is particularly appealing as it would be recorded as “pure profit” on the club’s books.
A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are prepared to slash their asking price for Garnacho in an effort to ensure a transfer goes through.
Now, TEAMtalk reveal that Napoli and Chelsea aren’t the only parties eyeing the 20-year-old. He is also has admirers at Atletico Madrid and German outfit Bayer Leverkusen.
“TEAMtalk can confirm that Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United this summer, though they are not alone as he is also being chased by clubs from the Premier League and Germany.”
“Bayer Leverkusen have joined the hunt and have checked in with his representatives over a potential deal. They believe he would be a good addition and his age makes him someone who can improve significantly.”
The news outlet notes that Leverkusen are aware that Garnacho’s preference may be La Liga due to his dream of lining up for Real Madrid one day.
Atletico are considered favourites to land his signature but nothing is close to being done. TEAMtalk insist that United want close to £70m to sanction the forward’s exit.
Meanwhile, United are back in action later this evening when they host Lyon in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie. Kick-off is at 20:00 BST.
