FC Barcelona has been working on various avenues to generate revenue this summer. For the Catalan giants, it is essential that the club can return to the 1:1 rule as soon as possible. However, certain operations are proving to be quite troublesome for Barcelona.
Interestingly, it is not just transfer-related operations that the club is concerned about. Even though operations of that particular type are definitely taking longer than expected, other operations are also not exactly where the club would want them to be in an ideal world.
One such case is that of the upcoming Joan Gamper trophy, a match that had a lot of hype behind it due to its tradition and the reopening of the Spotify Camp Nou. Having been under constructions since quite a while, this upcoming friendly game was Barça’s official occasion to return to their stadium on the 10th of August.

However, despite making a big statement regarding this expected return, it now seems like the club will not be able to deliver on that promise. Previously, the club continued to suggest that the return to the Camp Nou would happen sometime last season, but that return has now been pushed several times already.
Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, there might just be yet another major delay as well considering the club’s posts and statements about hosting the Joan Gamper trophy game at the new Spotify Camp Nou. Instead, MD reports that the match, reportedly against Italian side Como, will take place at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.
This is far from the ideal situation that the club would have wanted, but it seems now that the Barcelona City Council will not be giving the club the second permit they desperately need. After giving the club the first permit they needed, the second ‘First Occupancy’ permit is now not expected to come that would have then been followed up by permission to let at least 30,000 fans into the stadium.
Instead, it is being reported that the return to the Camp Nou will likely happen in September. That is the month in which Barcelona will play its first official home game of the new La Liga season against Valencia, and that is now expected to be the new return date for the Spotify Camp Nou.
However, if there is one thing to give Barcelona fans some excitement, it was the recent unveiling of Lamine Yamal’s new number at the club. Now the latest recipient to take on Lionel Messi’s iconic number ‘10’ jersey, the Barcelona star will surely light up the Camp Nou no matter the return date.
