Barcelona are very well-stocked when it comes to the midfield department with Hansi Flick having plenty of reliable options in the centre of the park.

As such, strengthening the area is not seen as a priority by the Blaugrana sporting management heading into the summer transfer window.

Despite that, the La Liga leaders remain open to any potential opportunity to bolster the squad and a certain Premier League midfielder has seemingly caught their attention.

Sandro Tonali on Barcelona’s radar

Indeed, according to Calciomercato, Barcelona have set their sights on Newcastle United and Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali as a potential target for the summer.

Andrea Mancini, former sporting director of Sampdoria and son of Roberto Mancini, is now collaborating with Deco, Barcelona’s sporting director. Mancini’s role involves analysing and scouting players targeted by the Catalan club.

One of the latest scouting reports focused on Tonali, with Barcelona highly appreciating the Italian midfielder’s qualities.

As of now, there are no negotiations between Barcelona and Newcastle, but the club’s interest is believed to be real, and Tonali’s entourage has already been informed.

Interest in Italy

Signing Tonali, though, will not be an easy task given that he has a contract until 2028 at Newcastle, where he is regarded very highly after helping them win the Carabao Cup this season.

In addition, Juventus also have shown an interest in the 24-year-old midfielder, although his salary could be a hindrance for the faltering Italian giants.

Moreover, a return to AC Milan has also been talked about, although it is not likely to materialise this year, but sometime later in the future.

As mentioned earlier, the midfield department is not a priority for Barcelona. So, despite the alleged admiration, a move for Tonali in the summer seems improbable.
