After having brought in only Dani Olmo and Pau Victor in the last summer transfer window and made no new signings in the winter window, FC Barcelona would be keen to bring in some reinforcements for Hansi Flick in the upcoming summer transfer window.
One of the areas that the Catalans are looking to strengthen before the start of the next season is that of the fullbacks. While Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde are fixed starters for Flick this season, the Blaugranes want to bring in more competent substitutes for these defenders, as Hector Fort and Gerard Martin are both rather lacking in experience.
In a recent report, SPORT has identified one former Barcelona player whose prototype the Catalans are looking to get for the right-back position this summer. This player is João Cancelo, who spent the last season on loan at the Blaugrana club, but is currently playing in Saudi Arabia with Al-Hilal.
The Portuguese fullback had the ability to play well on both flanks, and this versatility is what Deco and Hansi Flick want above anything else from a fullback that they can buy this summer.
However, keeping in view the situation of the market, it would be almost impossible to find such a player, and thus, Barcelona are also open to compromising on this criterion to bring in another young right-back who can start contributing right after joining the team.
It would be easier to find such a player, and there have been several such options already linked with the Blaugranes in recent months. One of them is the Monaco defender Vanderson, whom Deco has been following for quite some time, while the Almeria defender Marc Pubill has the backing of several Barcelona coaches.
Similarly, the Feyenoord defender, Gavairo Read, Bayern Leverkusen fullback Jeremie Frimpong, and the Fiorentina right-back Dodo are also options being linked with the Catalan side.
