In a major update, MARCA reports that Clement Lenglet will cease to be a Barcelona player in the coming hours. The defender has reached a principle agreement with the club to terminate his contract, following negotiations that have been ongoing since the end of the season.

According to sources familiar with the talks, the agreement is virtually complete, with only minor details left to finalise.

This move clears the way for Lenglet to sign with Atletico Madrid. The club had been waiting for the Frenchman to become a free agent before finalising a deal.

In fact, Fabrizio Romano reports that Lenglet and Atletico have also reached an agreement for him to sign a three-year contract with the club until 2028.

The French international, who has spent the last three seasons away on loan at Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, and Atletico Madrid, in that order, had a contract with Barça until 2027, during which he was due to earn €16 million gross.

The negotiations for a termination were not straightforward and both parties made concessions to reach an agreement.

Lenglet will accept a reduced salary at Atletico compared to what he was earning at Barcelona, and the club will cover part of the remaining amount.

This outcome had been anticipated since Barcelona renewed Lenglet’s contract last year, spreading his salary over two years with the aim of facilitating a future exit. His departure comes as a boost for Barça in terms of the salary space that will be freed up.
